Work Study
Gain practical work experience while offsetting program costs
Why a work-study program? We believe that following Jesus is not without cost, we just don’t want that cost to be money! Additionally, we believe work matters for the disciple of Jesus. There are many passages in scripture that teach the importance of work, but three major principles summarize it well. First, God modeled work for us by creating the universe. He then gave us work to do, by stewarding His creation (Genesis 1). Work is a part of bearing God’s image to display his glory. Second, Colossians 3:23-24 tells us work is first and foremost an act of service to God. It’s our opportunity to demonstrate our love for him. Third, Proverbs 24: 30-34 states that with hard work and diligence, we are blessed.
For these reasons, we believe work is an important piece in the life of a disciple of Jesus. At Adelphia, each student will have the opportunity to develop greater character and competency through a work-study with Lake Retreat Camp – where the Adelphia campus is located. Each student will receive training and instruction in different work departments which include kitchen (dining, food prep, dishes), recreational activities, housekeeping, and maintenance.

What is the Work Study Program?
Each student participates in a work-study with Lake Retreat Camp during their time at Adelphia. When all work hours are completed, the work-study program completely covers the cost of tuition, room & board, books and all formal student life activities. During the first part of the school year, the work study program is a smaller component of the discipleship process, averaging roughly 8-10 hours per week. During the summer months, the work emphasis becomes a major focus as the students average between 30-40 hours per week. This is where our students have the opportunity to serve thousands of summer guests and campers while putting into practice what they have learned in the various departments at Lake Retreat Camp.
